Craig Edwards was born and raised on the family farm in the Lonesome Prairie region of North Central Montana near Big Sandy, Montana. A graduate of Montana State University’s College of Art, he returned to the prairie after graduation and spent five years as a sharecropper before he joined the family farm. In the meantime, Edwards also began working as a commercial photographer, shooting weddings, portraits and other projects for hire.

After working with his father on a local history book, Edwards was inspired to move away from commercial photography and instead focus on creating fine art images and conceptual art. Influenced by the prairie landscape and the people and objects that inhabit it, it is his passion to showcase the region through his opinionated fine art photography.

As a farmer on the ground his grandfather homesteaded, he observes his subject matter daily. Most of his images are photographed within a 50 mile radius of his farm and depict scenes from the Bear Paw Mtns, the Missouri River Breaks, and the Lonesome Prairie.

His work has been shown throughout Montana and has been published both regionally and nationally. In 2019 he was named Photographer of the Year by the MT Professional Photographers Association, and in 2023 received his Master of Photography degree. His main website is: Edwardsstudio.com, and the full scope of his artwork and projects can be accessed at: linktr.ee/CraigEdwards. He shows his work at his gallery in downtown Big Sandy, and is a regular exhibitor at the Legends West Art Show during Russell Art week in Great Falls MT. At Art Week 2025, he was awarded the “Most Distinguished Body of Work” award.
